It’s often a circuitous path from lyric through my head to post … the path to these lyrics actually started hours before I heard the tune covered for an ad on tv.

The path starts with my drive home, the planned quick call to mom to discuss tomorrow’s schedule and the ensuing talk off the ledge found all too often while trying to adjust to a failing body.  She needed me; I heard it in her voice.  She didn’t want help; she needed it.  She was lost in a cacophonous vacuum of soundless darkness and needed some beacon of light to bring her safely home.

So, later when I heard this song as the backdrop for a community outreach program, I found myself meditating on the fear, despair and helplessness I had heard in her voice just hours before.  Her foreseeable future is literally black with visions that torment her reality and her only solace is, at some point, God’s will to bring relief …

Of course that brings me to these lyrics and the desperation that screams from each word.  These lyrics ARE the world where my mom lives and sometimes spirals out of control.  These lyrics ARE the world where she searches for something to bring her comfort and finds only walls of confusion that block any path of escape.  These lyrics embody how I think she must feel every day.

Please say a little prayer for anyone who does feel like this …

Crashing, hit a wall
Right now I need a miracle
Hurry up now, I need a miracle
Stranded, reaching out
I call your name but you’re not around
I say your name but you’re not around

I need ya, I need ya, I need you right now
Yeah, I need you right now
So don’t let me, don’t let me, don’t let me down
I think I’m losing my mind now
It’s in my head, darling, I hope
That you’ll be here, when I need you the most
So don’t let me, don’t let me, don’t let me down
D-don’t let me down

Don’t let me down
Don’t let me down, down, down
Don’t let me down, don’t let me down, down, down

Running out of time
I really thought you were on my side
But now there’s nobody by my side

I need ya, I need ya, I need you right now
Yeah, I need you right now
So don’t let me, don’t let me, don’t let me down
I think I’m losing my mind now
It’s in my head, darling, I hope
That you’ll be here, when I need you the most
So don’t let me, don’t let me, don’t let me down
D-don’t let me down

Don’t let me down
Don’t let me down, down, down
Don’t let me down, down, down
Don’t let me down, down, down
Don’t let me down, don’t let me down, down, down

Ooh, I think I’m losing my mind now, yeah
Ooh, I think I’m losing my mind now, yeah

I need ya, I need ya, I need you right now
Yeah, I need you right now
So don’t let me, don’t let me, don’t let me down
I think I’m losing my mind now
It’s in my head, darling, I hope
That you’ll be here, when I need you the most
So don’t let me, don’t let me, don’t let me down
Don’t let me down

Yeah, don’t let me down
Yeah, don’t let me down
Don’t let me down, oh, no
Said don’t let me down
Don’t let me down

Don’t let me down
Don’t let me down, down, down
