So seventies and so good!

I was a fan of some disco music but, in general, eh; not so much.  This band, however, I was a fan of and they have somehow remained relevant in my music catalog for ensuing decades.  I don’t think I would have ever classified this group as a disco band before writing this post, but, as I though about how they influenced the genre, I think its unavoidable.  I probably would have said classic rock or pop … but, how else can you describe a band that is featured on the Xanadu soundtrack?

They have continued to be a mainstay in my rotation because they have influences that are incredibly diverse.  In their music, you can hear everything from classical music to 50’s rockabilly and 60’s folk to 70’s pop.  They have pulled together classical string instruments, soaring synthesizer and jazzy guitar riffs to influence music through at least 3 decades.  They have been a band that has withstood the test of time but remained faithful to their style of music.

Enough already, lets see some music!  So, pull out yer bell bottom pants, wide collared shirt and platform shoes to enjoy this nugget from 1979 …(and stay around for the video afterwards!)

It was 9:29
9:29, back street, big city
The sun was going down
There was music all around
It felt so right

It was one of those nights
One of those nights
When you feel the world stop turning
You were standing there
There was music in the air
I should have been away
But I knew I had to stay

Last train to London, just heading out
Last train to London, just leaving town
But I really want tonight to last forever
I really want to be with you
Let the music play on down the line tonight

It was one of those nights
One of those nights
When you feel the fire burning
Everybody was there
Everybody to share
It was so right

There you were on your own
Looking like you were the only one around
I had to be with you
Nothing else that I could do
I should have been away
But I knew I had to stay

Last train to London, just heading out
Last train to London, just leaving town
But I really want tonight to last forever
I really want to be with you
Let the music play on down the line tonight

Underneath a starry sky
Time was still but hours must really have rushed by
I didn’t realize
But love was in your eyes
I really should have gone
But love went on and on

Last train to London, just heading out
Last train to London, just leaving town
But I really want tonight to last forever
I really want to be with you
Let the music play on down the line tonight

But I really want tonight to last forever
I really want to be with you
Let the music play on down the line tonight
